Project REHAB and UP Cebu Faculty Attend Shotgun Metagenomics Data Analysis Training

Jun 1, 2024

Project REHAB, together with faculty members and research assistants from the University of the Philippines Cebu, participated in the Shotgun Metagenomics Data Analysis Training held on May 29–31, 2024 at the Core Facility for Bioinformatics located in the New Science Building, University of the Philippines Cebu. This training follows from the participation of Project REHAB in shotgun metagenomic sequencing training.

The three-day training focused on the analytical workflows and computational approaches used in shotgun metagenomics which allowed participants to process, analyze, and interpret large-scale sequencing data generated from microbial communities. Sessions covered key concepts in data quality control, taxonomic and functional profiling, and the application of bioinformatics tools relevant to environmental microbiology research

By engaging in this activity, Project REHAB strengthened their expertise in metagenomic data analysis, supporting the project’s broader goals of integrating advanced genomic and bioinformatics methods into its research initiatives. The training also contributed in the development of local expertise in high-throughput data analysis and microbial ecology in the side of UP Cebu faculty.
